Robert “Evel” Knievel (October 17, 1938 – November 30, 2007) was an entertainer, stuntman and daredevil. During his storied career, he attempted more than 75 ramp to ramp motorcycle jumps. During the famous Caesar’s Palace attempt of 141 feet, Knievel landed just shy of the mark and ended up with a crushed pelvis and femur plus several broken bones. He retired from stunt shows in 1980, touring with his son Robbie for speaking engagements only into 1981. Knievel passed away in 1999 from pulmonary disease. He is buried in beautiful Mountain View Cemetery in Butte, Montana, often referred to as “his last jump”.
In 1987, Knievel’s son Robbie would be the first person to clear the Caesar’s Palace fountains in a recreation of his father’s famous attempt. Following the jump, Robbie stated “that was for you, Dad”.
