Joseph Paul DiMaggio (November 25, 1914 – March 8, 1999) was a baseball center fielder that played his entire career for the New York Yankees. He is widely considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time, with a 56-game hitting streak that still stands to this day.
In addition, DiMaggio was also known for his stormy romance with actress Marilyn Monroe. They were briefly married and ultimately divorced but they remained close. After her untimely death in 1962, he not only arranged her burial but also had a half a dozen red roses delivered to her crypt three times a week for twenty years. DiMaggio never remarried. He is buried in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma, California, just outside of San Francisco.
